Allozymes is hiring a Research Assistant / Senior Research Assistant into its Protein Engineering team. This team is responsible for developing novel enzymes and microbes to produce chemicals and natural compounds. The candidate will help with the day-to-day experiments that are assigned by lead scientists. Working in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment, this role has the opportunity to interact with other assistants, scientists, and engineers to achieve the team goals.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct genentic cloning of micro-organism
  • Perform bench-scale protein purification and characterization.
  • Develop and implement enzymatic assays.
  • Perform data analysis and generate experiment reports.
  • Assist the scientist in charge with experimental design including literature review.
  • Maintain lab reagent stocks and perform other lab maintenance duties.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical engineering, microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry or other relevant technical fields.
  • Extensive experience in molecular biology (e.g., plasmid editing and genome integration) and enzyme characterization (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, protein purification, and enzyme functional assay).
  • Hands-on experience in culturing E. coli, S.cerevisiae, P. pastoris, or B. subtilis is a plus.
  • Prior experience in high throughput screening, flow cytometry, microfluidics, or microscopy is a plus.
  • Prior experience in high throughput sequencing (e.g. Nanopore or Illumina NGS) is a plus.
  • Experience performing quantitative data analysis (e.g., signal-to-noise, curve fitting, calculating kcat or KM) is a plus.
  • At least 2 years of laboratory experience.
  • Working experience in an industry setting is a plus.
  • Desire to learn and adapt to rapidly changing protocols and technologies.
  • Self-starter with the ability to organize work with minimal guidance.
  • Passionate about building the future of the bioeconomy.
