What we're all about at Asterix

We're fixing the biggest problem in healthcare: the shortage of highly qualified clinical staff.

There are not enough doctors, and the system can no longer keep up. Millions of patients wait weeks for appointments. Millions more are stuck on hospital waitlists. Preventable conditions are missed and go unnoticed.

Asterix is building the only scalable solution: a new model of care where highly qualified doctors are augmented by AI to make safer, more consistent clinical decisions. Our DoctorOS platform is becoming the backbone of modern healthcare delivery. We combine rigorous clinical leadership, real-world healthcare workflows, and AI tooling that makes doctors safer and more productive.

We're the first and only company approved to register international doctors to work in UK primary care from abroad. That gives us a unique edge and an incredible opportunity. We're already generating revenue and partnering with GP practices that serve 200,000+ patients. We're venture-backed and recently closed an oversubscribed, unannounced funding round.

The role

This is a senior clinical leadership role. As Lead GP / Associate Medical Director, you will deputise for the Medical Director in their absence and share responsibility for the safety and quality of our clinical service.

You'll sit at the interface between Clinical Operations and our doctor workforce. You'll lead the audit of our doctors' clinical work, line manage and develop GPs, and own the doctor experience at Asterix. You'll also shape our training and accreditation pathways, and make sure our service is always ready for regulatory scrutiny, including CQC inspection.

Key responsibilities
  • Deputise for the Medical Director. Step in as the senior clinical decision-maker when the Medical Director is absent, taking ownership of clinical escalations, governance decisions and patient safety issues.

  • Lead clinical audit and quality improvement. Run the full audit cycle across our doctors' work: design the audit, collect and collate the data, interpret the findings, and create and implement improvement plans. Ensure high-quality decision-making, safe practice and adherence to national and local guidelines.

  • Line manage and develop our GPs. Provide one-to-one performance management and feedback, offering clinical and operational guidance informed by your audit findings. Own and create an industry-leading doctor experience.

  • Lead regulatory readiness. Help ensure our service meets CQC standards and is inspection-ready, drawing on your own experience of the inspection process.

  • Organise and lead bi-weekly CPD sessions that address learning needs identified through audit. These may include small-group case discussions, educational presentations, or mock consultations with structured feedback. Topics range from teaching doctors who are learning NHS standards for the first time to detailed seminars on safeguarding vulnerable patients and safety-netting.

  • Develop accreditation training. Every Asterix doctor completes a structured induction at our accreditation sites. You'll design and deliver these sessions to support safe, consistent decision-making across the service.

  • Shape our product. Work with the product and engineering teams, giving clinical input so that DoctorOS makes our doctors safer and more productive while keeping the user at the centre of the experience.

Your career path

This role will grow with the company. We have ambitious goals for this year, and as deputy to the Medical Director you'll be well placed to take on greater clinical ownership of the service as we scale.

What we're looking for
Must-haves
  • At least 8 years' experience as a GP post-MRCGP

  • Currently GMC-registered and in good standing

  • Recent clinical experience in face-to-face general practice in the UK

  • A previous leadership role, including line management of other GPs

  • A strong background in quality improvement and audit across the full cycle: designing and undertaking data collection, collating and interpreting the data, and creating and implementing improvement plans

  • Experience of CQC inspections

  • Sound understanding of clinical governance and patient safety

  • Confidence to make decisions and work without constant supervision

  • Experience with EMIS or SystmOne and other primary care software

  • Based in London and able to work from our Zone 1 office

  • Excited to be part of an early-stage startup, which means getting your hands dirty with whatever needs support

Nice-to-haves
  • Previous experience with a digital or telehealth provider

  • Experience as a GP Trainer

  • Experience creating or managing training pathways, or managing workforce productivity

Our culture: the Asterix way
  • Humble. We assume we're wrong until the data or a clinician proves otherwise. Curiosity over ego, always.

  • High-intensity, founder mentality. You don't wait for permission. You push problems to resolution. You act like an owner of the mission, the systems and the culture. Solving one of society's biggest problems won't happen in a 9-to-5. We work hard, with purpose.

  • Joyful energy. We take the work seriously, not ourselves. We celebrate progress, support each other and keep the energy high.

  • In-person by design. We work shoulder-to-shoulder in London. It makes us faster, tighter and better.

We're an early-stage company with massive ambition, and we need real commitment and dedication. The pace is fast and the delivery targets are ambitious. If that excites you, you'll thrive here. If you're looking for a traditional 9-to-5, this isn't the role for you.
