Head of Operations - Job Description

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Locations: London, Bournemouth, Norwich, Brighton, Manchester (location is if based in one of our schemes)

The Role
Head of Operations is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of Beryl’s national micromobility operations. The role ensures schemes are run safely, efficiently, and profitably, while delivering outstanding service to our local authority partners and riders. You will shape and execute operational strategy, optimise fleet deployment and performance, lead operational teams, and ensure compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Strategy

  • Own and execute Beryl’s national operations strategy to support company growth, scheme expansion, and profitability targets.
  • Ensure operational readiness for new launches, expansions, and transitions, managing planning, staffing, asset deployment and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence across all schemes.

Scheme Performance & Commercial Delivery

  • Oversee performance across all schemes, ensuring KPIs on availability, utilisation, margin, and customer experience are consistently met.
  • Work closely with Tech, Operations and Finance teams to optimise deployment models, reduce operating costs, and improve scheme profitability.
  • Lead operational input into bids, renewals and contract negotiations with local authority partners.
  • Maintain high standards of operational safety and ensure all teams follow robust processes, training and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee compliance with local authority contract obligations and national micromobility regulations.

Operational Excellence & Innovation

  • Lead continuous improvements in fleet availability, maintenance, logistics, and environmental impact.
  • Champion data-driven decision-making using operational dashboards, analytics and forecasting.
  • Work with Product & Tech to influence product developments that improve efficiency and rider experience.

Stakeholder & Partner Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local authority partners, ensuring collaborative delivery and high satisfaction.
  • Represent Beryl at senior forums, meetings and public engagements relating to operations and scheme performance.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and SLT on operational matters impacting business strategy.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Senior operations leadership experience in a fast-paced, multi-site environment (ideally mobility, transport, logistics, fleet, or tech-enabled operations).
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver operational and commercial performance at scale.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&L drivers, budgets, and operational cost structures.
  • Proven success leading large dispersed teams and developing high-performing operational leaders.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
