Senior Full Stack Software Engineer
Software Engineering
London, UK
Senior Full Stack Software Engineer
Location: London (hybrid - 3 days per week in our Shoreditch office)
Closing date: 25/09/26
Our company
Every ride on a Beryl bike, e-bike or e-scooter is a journey that didn't happen in a car. In 2025 that added up to more than 3.5 million journeys.
The software you'd work on is what makes that possible: it shows a rider the nearest available vehicle and unlocks it in seconds, streams location and telemetry back from thousands of vehicles in real time, tells our street teams which ones need attention next, and keeps it all running 24/7.
We're the UK's only B-Corp micromobility operator, and we're growing nationally. It's a great time to join us.
About the role
You'd join our Software team. Supporting a react-native multi platform customer mobile app, an react-native android app used by our operations teams, an automated tasking engine, python backend microservices deployed on Kubernetes in our GCP infrastructure..
We're a small team, so the work is varied and you'll touch most of the stack. In your first six months we'd expect you to:
- Own problems end to end, from an ambiguous "riders are reporting X" through to a fix in production
- Shape architecture, not just implement it: you'll be in the room when we decide how a new system should work, and we want you pushing back when we're wrong
- Get to know a significant area of the platform well and become someone the team turns to when decisions come up there
- Raise the bar around you through code review, pairing and sharing knowledge
We're not looking for someone strong in everything. We're looking for genuine depth in one area; mobile, backend or frontend, plus enough range to work confidently across the others. If you're a Python engineer who's comfortable in React, or a React Native developer who can hold their own on a backend service, please apply.
We're evolving how to fit AI into our workflow responsibly, whilst continuing to focus on quality and a good understanding of our codebase.
Our technology stack consists of:
- React Native mobile applications
- React web applications
- GraphQL layer using Apollo Server and Apollo Client
- Python services running Flask and FastAPI
- Kubernetes based microservice architecture running on Google Cloud Platform
- Cloud Postgres and Google BigQuery datastores with DBT data transformations
- Google PubSub and MQTT messaging
- Terraform infrastructure orchestration
- CI/CD via CircleCI and Helmfile (server) and Bitrise (mobile)
- Error reporting using DataDog and Sentry
- Claude code
What we’re looking for
Depth in at least one of these:
- Backend - Python in production, including running and supporting live services
- Frontend - TypeScript and modern JavaScript, with real React experience beyond the basics: context, async state, composition patterns
- Mobile - React Native and shipping to the app stores
And whichever your area, we're looking for:
- Enough range to work confidently outside it. You don't need to be expert everywhere, but you should be comfortable reading and contributing across the stack
- Comfort with relational databases and designing schemas that hold up
- Pride in readable, well-tested software, and the ability to explain why a design is the right one
- The judgement that comes with seniority: knowing what to build, what to leave alone, and when to say so
Great if you have it, fine if you don't:
- Any of the three areas above that isn't your main one
- Docker and containerised applications
- Building and consuming REST and GraphQL APIs
- Kubernetes, Terraform, or GCP
- Experience working with AI coding agents
- IoT and distributed connected hardware in the real world
We know the ideal candidate rarely exists. If you're missing a couple of these but the role sounds like you, apply anyway and tell us how you'd close the gap.
What we are offering in return
