🚀 About Borderless

Borderless is simplifying the complexity of global immigration, starting with the UK.

Immigration is one of the most important - and most broken - systems in the global economy. It’s shaped human history, yet businesses and individuals hit friction at every turn, and government policy lurches with the political cycle.

Our vision is simple: a world where borders are no longer barriers, empowering the ambitious, wherever they are.

Backed by Entrepreneur First and Backed.VC, we’re already supporting 600+ businesses, 15,000+ workers and scaling fast into new sectors and markets.

Around 25% of our workforce is sponsored, and we proudly offer visa sponsorship as part of our hiring process.

🔥 Role: Head of Finance

We’re looking for a Head of Finance to build and own the financial engine of Borderless - driving both the operational backbone and the commercial intelligence of the business.

Reporting directly to our CEO, this is a high-impact, high-ownership role. You won’t just report numbers - you’ll define them, shape them, and use them to influence how the company grows. You’ll partner directly with leadership across Product, Sales, and Operations to improve decision-making, optimise revenue, and drive efficiency across the business.

You’ll operate as a true financial generalist: comfortable in the detail, but always thinking about how finance unlocks growth.

🚀 Success Definition

6–12 Month Outcomes:

  • Build a scalable, high-quality finance function with strong processes and controls

  • Deliver best-in-class management reporting with clear, actionable insights

  • Establish clear unit economics and company-wide metrics (e.g. revenue drivers, margins, cost-to-serve)

  • Own and continuously improve budgeting, forecasting, and cash visibility

  • Drive measurable improvements in pricing, revenue, and operational efficiency

Top 3 Priorities:

  1. Build the financial engine

    • Create strong financial foundations across reporting, controls, and processes

    • Ensure the business has accurate, reliable, and timely financial data

  2. Own commercial performance

    • Define and track the metrics that matter (unit economics, margins, ROI)

    • Use data to actively improve pricing, revenue, and cost efficiency

  3. Be a strategic partner to the business

    • Work closely with Product, Sales, and Ops to guide decision-making

    • Challenge assumptions, provide clarity, and influence direction

Day to Day

Operational Excellence

  • Own all core financial processes including payroll, expense management, VAT returns, R&D claims and investor reporting.

  • Manage billing, payments, credit control, and debt collection

  • Prepare accurate management accounts and maintain strong financial controls

Commercial & Strategic Impact

  • Lead pricing strategy and experimentation to optimise revenue per customer

  • Own budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial modelling

  • Define and track unit economics, margins, cost-to-serve, and departmental ROI

  • Evaluate and implement AI-native finance tooling to scale the function without scaling headcount

🧠 What Great Looks Like

You’ll excel in this role if you combine financial rigour with strong commercial instinct and startup pace:

  • 6+ years of experience in finance, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment

  • Proven ability to operate both hands-on and strategically

  • Strong financial modelling and analytical skills (advanced spreadsheets and BI tools)

  • AI-native worker — you use AI tools to multiply your output and actively seek ways to automate repetitive finance work

  • Excellent communicator — able to clearly explain insights, challenge thinking, and influence decisions

  • Highly commercial — understands how finance drives growth, not just tracks it

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and building from scratch

What We’re Not Looking For:

  • Purely reporting-focused or backward-looking finance profiles

  • Someone who avoids ownership or waits for direction

  • Low commercial awareness or reluctance to challenge stakeholders

🧪 Interview Process

  • 30-minute screening call with Talent

  • 45-minute interview with Hiring Manager

  • Practical case study

  • Final onsite interview
