Analog Electronics (Research) Engineer
Skills & Experience
- PhD in physics, electrical engineering or a closely related field.
- Solid understanding of electronic noise theory, both low-frequency and RF (the NMR signal we measure is at ~500 kHz), and related concepts/techniques (analog signal filtering techniques, low-noise measurement, ...).
- Extensive hands-on experience with the aforementioned low-noise measurement techniques: from drafting protocols to interpreting experimental data.
- Proven written and oral communication skills (Peer-reviewed papers, participation in conferences, …).
- Proficiency in Python.
- Familiarity or introductory experience with electronic design software such as LTSpice, Altium Designer, Eagle, or similar is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the characterization and optimisation of low-noise analog electronic circuits for MRI detection systems.
- Design and perform controlled measurements of electronic noise spectral densities, transfer functions (DC to microwaves) and several other observables to identify dominant noise source in the output signal in order to mitigate them.
- Translate experimental findings into clear documentation, providing actionable guidelines for integration of electronic solutions.
- Assist in the integration of said solutions: PCB development tasks, selection/benchmarking of components, fabrication/setup of analog filters, low noise amplifiers (SQUID and beyond), post-amplification circuits, and their integration into the detection line.
- Approximately 5% of your time will be dedicated to cross-team collaboration and support activities.
