Intro
We’re looking for a Software Engineer to take ownership of our website, where thousands of potential customers begin their journey with Feather every day. You’ll shape how we scale it, keep the user experience smooth and intuitive, and build the tools our teams need to move fast.
Why work at Feather?
  • We’re small, lean, and we love what we do. The usual buzzwords here, except we actually mean them. Staying small helps us focus on what matters, and we want to keep it that way.
  • A modern tech stack to work with. We use Next.js with Strapi as the CMS. CI/CD runs on GitHub actions, and the code is deployed to GCP with Docker and Terraform.
  • You’ll work on a product that is loved by customers. Our excellent Trustpilot and Google reviews speak for themselves.
  • There's plenty of space to grow. We trust you to take ownership and make decisions from day one, and we will give you all the support and mentorship you need to succeed.
  • You’ll have the freedom to explore and innovate. Our regular hack days let you experiment with new technologies and ideas. Our design system Dirty Swan and several other internal tools were once a hack day project.
  • Flexible remote work policy. We offer a remote-first work environment with an office in Berlin. We host company retreats, team dinners, and meetups to spend in-person time together.
What you bring to the table
At Feather, you'll be trusted with significant responsibility early on. That means we value engineers who communicate well, take ownership, and are comfortable with uncertainty. If you enjoy shaping both the "what" and the "how" of building products, you'll fit right in.

The technical side matters too, and here's the baseline:
  • You've built websites or web applications with Next.js (or similar framework) and have experience with headless CMS platforms.
  • You understand SEO fundamentals and care about web performance, accessibility, and user experience.
  • You can write clean, maintainable code and make sound architectural decisions.
  • You have a good understanding of modern web development workflows (CI/CD pipelines, version control, testing, and deployment).
  • You're comfortable working across the stack, from front-end components to build optimization and infrastructure.
But that's it. We don't expect you to know everything about the latest hype architecture or framework. In fact, we prefer hiring someone curious but practical, who can pick the right, often boring, tool for the job.

We don't care about degrees or formal years of experience, and we encourage people who switched to engineering later in their careers to apply. If you enjoy the challenge and can learn fast, the team will provide you with the support you need.
You'll be responsible for

You’ll be responsible for the marketing website end to end, building the systems that keep it fast, reliable, and easy to work with.

Your main focus areas will be:

  • Platform: Maintain and evolve Next.js, Strapi, and core infrastructure (CI/CD, CDN, Terraform).
  • CMS component library: Work with Design and Product on our headless CMS (Strapi), making sure its components are flexible, accessible, and meet our teams’ content needs.
  • Content management: Build tools and documentation that enable non-technical teams to create and publish content independently.
  • Performance and SEO: Define goals, monitor key metrics, and ship improvements that keep the website fast and discoverable.
  • Marketing collaboration: Contribute to growth initiatives, and ensure accurate tracking and GDPR compliance.

Here are some examples of the kind of work you'll do:

  • Migrate the website and its dependencies from Next.js v13 to v16.
  • Create a quote calculator for a new landing page about car insurance in Spain.
  • Experiment with an n8n bot that integrates content updates with Slack and lets teams publish with a click.
  • Adapt the structured data markup on the blog to increase visibility on search engines and LLMs.
  • Build an alerting system that monitors Core Web Vitals and notifies the team when metrics drop.
  • Improve the accessibility of our design system’s components.
  • Bring your latest unexplored idea to life during our regular hack days.
  • Propose an architectural change using our RFC process.
Does this sound like a good fit for you? Apply now!
  • At Feather, we continuously work to have inclusive representation within our teams and embrace a diverse mix of talent to contribute to our culture.
  • We also encourage people without degrees to apply: we believe that what you've worked on and achieved is way more important than on-paper qualifications.
About us
Feather was founded in 2018 by Rob Schumacher and Vincent Audoire, who both faced unexpected challenges navigating Germany’s complex insurance system—even as Europeans themselves. Frustrated by the bureaucracy and lack of clarity, they set out to create a better experience: one that was simple, accessible, and transparent.
Their journey began as part of the first Entrepreneur First Berlin cohort, a program dedicated to helping ambitious individuals build impactful companies from scratch. This foundation enabled them to turn their idea into a mission—making insurance radically easier for everyone.
That’s why we’ve built Feather to simplify every step of the insurance experience—from signing up and filing claims to asking questions or canceling a policy. Our goal is to provide honest, unbiased advice and empower people with the clarity they need to make confident decisions. And because insurance is still too complicated, we offer human support, helpful articles, and easy-to-use tools for those moments when people need a little extra guidance.
To date, Feather has helped people from over 150 countries get insurance online—and we’re growing fast.
