The Role:

As a Senior Field Engineer, you will lead complex defence customer engagements from solution design through integration, deployment and ongoing technical ownership.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who can take ownership of challenging technical deliveries, work directly with customers and coordinate across Hadean to get things done. You will also help us scale how we deliver by developing reusable architectures and approaches, strengthening customer enablement, and turning lessons from the field into meaningful input for Product and Engineering.

• You are a seasoned engineer who enjoys being close to both the technology and the customer.

• You are proactive and outcome-oriented, able to understand what a customer is trying to achieve and work out what needs to happen to get them there.

• You communicate clearly and calmly, whether you are working with engineers or briefing military and government stakeholders.

• You are collaborative by default. You bring the right people together, share knowledge and build repeatable approaches rather than relying on individual heroics.

• You are comfortable operating with ambiguity and changing priorities, while bringing enough structure to keep complex work moving.

• You have strong judgement and know when to solve something yourself, when to involve others, and when a recurring customer problem needs a more scalable solution.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead complex customer engagements from technical discovery and solution design through integration, deployment and ongoing delivery.

• Design and own solution architectures, including integration points, data flows, infrastructure requirements and security considerations.

• Act as a senior technical point of contact for customers, developing a strong understanding of their technical and operational requirements.

• Lead Hadean’s technical delivery during customer deployments, military exercises and field experimentation.

• Coordinate delivery across Hadean and customer teams, identifying dependencies and risks and driving actions through to resolution.

• Work with Product and Engineering to translate field experience into actionable feedback and identify recurring requirements that should be productised.

• Lead and contribute to technical solutioning for bids, RFPs, ITTs and other defence procurement opportunities.

• Build reusable delivery assets, including reference architectures, integration patterns, deployment guides and customer training materials.

• Mentor other Field Engineers through technical reviews, knowledge sharing and hands-on guidance.

• Improve Field Engineering processes, standards and ways of working as the team and customer portfolio scale.

• Where required, undertake hands-on software engineering to solve customer problems and support successful delivery.

Skills required:

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on experience working with complex technical systems.

• Experience designing, integrating and deploying software across multiple systems and environments.

• Strong knowledge of networking, infrastructure, systems integration, and software installation and configuration.

• Experience producing technical architecture and design documentation, such as HLDs, LLDs and interface specifications.

• Experience delivering technology directly with customers in Field Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Forward Deployed Engineering or a comparable role.

• Ability to take technical work from requirements and architecture through to integration and successful deployment.

• Experience working in defence, national security, intelligence or another complex and operationally constrained environment is highly desirable.

• Experience with military systems, geospatial technologies, secure or classified environments, simulation, Command & Control or distributed systems would be advantageous.
