What We’re Looking For

We seek an experienced Space Systems Engineer with at least 5 years of industry experience in spacecraft design to lead the systems design and implementation for Lodestar’s next-gen sentry spacecraft. Key Functions & Responsibilities

  1. Lead Design & Development: Oversee the space systems design and development process throughout the entire life-cycle, from concept to deployment.
  2. Technical Decision-Making: Make informed, risk-based decisions to overcome engineering challenges and find optimal solutions.
  3. Hands-on Engineering: Engage in hands-on work with mechanical, electrical, and software systems, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.
  4. System Development: Develop reference designs, concepts, and analyses to support system development.
  5. Requirements Development: Develop system-level and interface requirements.
  6. Concept of Operations: Develop concepts of operations (CONOPS) and support the development of system-level or mission-level analyses.
  7. Operational Concepts: Develop innovative operational concepts and use cases; evaluate their impact on mission success.
  8. Risk Management: Identify and assess risks and develop mitigations throughout the system lifecycle.
  9. Requirement Implementation: Ensure system interface requirements meet operational needs and are implemented properly.
  10. Innovation & Improvement: Continuously drive innovation and process improvements to advance system performance and sustainability.
  11. Effective Communication: Collaborate and communicate effectively with both internal and external project stakeholders.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Have experience with space mission operations and/or anomaly resolution.
  • Are skilled at applying your understanding of the system design process to resolving challenges across the entire acquisition life-cycle.
  • Have 5+ years of experience working with space systems.
  • Experience defining requirements and executing verification plans.
  • Expertise in performing system-level trade studies.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams in system-level reviews.
  • Familiarity with space environments.
  • Experience as the directly responsible individual on complex projects.
  • Involvement in all program life-cycle stages including design, assembly, integration, test, and flight operations.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with mission design software (e.g., STK, GMAT).
  • Previous experience in a complex system engineering role within the aerospace industry.
  • Proficiency with scientific tools in Python and/or C/C++ for design and performance analysis.
  • Experience with analysis and interpretation of test data (Thermal, Vibe)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
