About the AI Research Team and the Role
Origin Medical’s flagship product is powered by our cutting-edge deep-learning algorithms for medical image recognition. As a Research Engineer, you will be involved in envisioning, designing, developing, and deploying these cutting-edge technologies to solve real-world challenges in medical imaging. This is a highly collaborative and cross-functional role where you will work with multiple external (Clinicians, health systems, Regulators) and internal teams (Data Engineering, Regulatory, Clinical Research, Product, and Software Engineering teams) across R&D life cycles. You will focus on formulating research hypotheses and leading research projects, and stay updated with the latest advancements in the field of deep learning and image recognition for medical imaging.
What will you do?
AI Algorithmic Research:
- Design and validation of novel AI (deep learning) methodologies, algorithms, and techniques for solving complex challenges in medical image recognition (e.g., classification/ semantic segmentation/object detection/ landmark detection, image translation, and generation).
- Validate novel technologies for safety, and efficacy at various stages of the product development life cycle.
- Enhance the effectiveness, scalability, and precision of existing AI algorithms.
- Engage in scientific and technical writing to communicate scientific ideas with the community.
Data Analysis:
- Analyze datasets to identify patterns, trends, and insights that can improve the learning, generalizability, and robustness of AI models.
- Formulate a data preparation and engineering strategy for R&D.
Technology Translation:
- Work with Product, Software Engineering, Clinical Research, and Regulatory teams in the integration of AI with flagship products and successful deployment in health systems.
Who are we looking for?
Must Haves:
- Deep learning and Image processing related projects (projects in medical image processing are a plus)
- Track record of good publications (peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations)
- Proficiency and working experience in general machine learning and AI R&D: convolutional neural networks, optimization, hyperparameter tuning, model search, model analysis, etc.
- Proficiency and working experience in machine learning libraries and frameworks: PyTorch (preferable), Tensorflow, Keras, etc.
- Ability to quickly read, understand, and implement academic publications
- Strong documentation skills, proficient analysis of project results and deriving insights
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively, both written and verbally, in English
Good to Have:
- Understanding of statistical approaches (biostatics is a plus) for analysis of AI model performance
- A basic understanding of git and git workflow is a plus
- A basic understanding of software architecture and design, especially object-oriented design is a plus
- A basic understanding of databases is a plus
- Prior startup (healthcare and AI) experience
