About Origin Medical Research Lab

Origin Medical Research Lab is the research arm of Origin Medical. Here, we strive to bring together the best and brightest minds at the intersection of AI and healthcare to fulfil Origin Medical’s mission.

By combining the knowledge of healthcare and AI, it is on a journey to build state-of-the-art solutions aimed at supporting a broad spectrum of healthcare providers in rural and urban communities, allowing them to practice at the top of their licenses. With AI in the imaging workflow, clinicians can more confidently deliver timely interventions, enhance pregnancy outcomes, identify high-risk pregnancies to reduce maternal mortality, and significantly lower infant mortality rates.

Origin Medical, headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, is driven by a mission to advance maternal health equity by improving access to quality prenatal care with artificial intelligence.

About the Team and the Role

The AI Cyber Security Engineer Intern operates at the intersection of cyber security and AI/ML engineering, focusing on securing the organisation’s AI systems, data, and pipelines. This role is part of a collaborative environment that includes security architects, data scientists, SOC analysts, and engineering teams.

The team is responsible for identifying AI-specific risks, implementing robust security controls, and enhancing the organisation’s overall cyber defence using AI-driven techniques. The role also contributes to building intelligent, automated security solutions while ensuring compliance with emerging AI governance frameworks.

What will you do?

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks in AI/ML systems, including training data, models, pipelines, and inference endpoints.
  • Perform threat modelling for AI systems, addressing risks such as prompt injection, model evasion, data poisoning, model inversion, and membership inference.
  • Conduct adversarial testing and red-team exercises on AI/LLM applications.
  • Develop and deploy AI/ML-based detection and response solutions for SIEM, SOAR, EDR, fraud detection, and anomaly detection.
  • Review and secure code, APIs, containers, and cloud environments supporting AI workloads
  • Support governance, risk, and compliance initiatives aligned with AI security frameworks and data protection regulations.
  • Participate in incident response for AI-related threats, including misuse, data leakage, and model abuse.
  • Collaborate with data science, DevSecOps, and platform teams to embed security into MLOps/LLMOps pipelines.
  • Create documentation, standards, and runbooks, and deliver awareness sessions on AI security topics.
  • Maintain and regularly update the Master Policy and Document List, ensuring all documentation and records are current, accurate, and support effective reporting, planning, and record-keeping. Ensure compliance with Document Control, Change Control, Training, and Records Management processes.
  • Support the maintenance of documents, Policy History Files, Technical Reports, Master Records, incident evidence, and other required documentation.
  • Provide support to internal teams by ensuring secure access, proper version control, and document integrity, in alignment with regulatory requirements such as ISO standards, SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, and HITRUST.
  • Manage the employee induction training program and maintain the training matrix by collaborating with hiring managers to ensure up-to-date training records, job descriptions, and employee files are compliant.
  • Oversee controlled distribution and maintenance of document copies, including SOPs and validation documentation evidence.
  • Manage vendor risk by tracking supplier risks, maintaining supplier checklists, and supporting the supplier evaluation process.

Who are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 0-12 years of experience in cybersecurity, with exposure to AI/ML systems or data platforms.
  • Experience in red-teaming AI systems, security research, CTFs, or open-source contributions is a plus.
  • AI/ML system security and lifecycle risk management.
  • Threat modelling and adversarial attack techniques.
  • Application, cloud, and infrastructure security.
  • Threat and vulnerability management.
  • Data security and privacy (including differential privacy, federated learning, secure enclaves).
  • Governance, risk, and compliance (familiarity with frameworks like NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, OWASP Top 10 for LLMs).
  • Secure development practices (APIs, containers, cloud configurations)
  • Scripting and automation for security operations.
  • Industry certifications such as CEH, OSCP, CCSP, or cloud security certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP)
  • AI/ML or MLOps-related certifications.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex AI security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative mindset with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong grasp of data integrity principles, thorough documentation practices, and computer system validation requirements.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities, with a focus on identifying issues and implementing practical solutions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all regulatory documentation and processes.
