What will you do?
A Research Scientist at Origin Medical will work with leading medical institutions, clinicians, and AI scientists in developing the next generation of deep learning and computer vision algorithms for the automated assessment of fetal ultrasound images (pregnancy scans) to detect birth defects. You will:
- Lead research and concept development for projects, including defining experimental strategies and approaches.
- Manage and oversee multiple project verticals, ensuring timely and high-quality execution.
- Review code, datasets, and technical documents to maintain rigor, quality, and integrity.
- Collaborate with data teams on dataset strategy, preparation, and optimisation.
- Coordinate with Clinical Quality teams to align product requirements with clinical and AI feasibility.
- Allocate and manage resources required for development and research activities.
- Support and mentor team members through regular check-ins and guidance.
- Drive recruitment efforts for research roles including Research Scientists, Engineers, and Interns.
- Ensure implementation and adherence to regulatory compliance standards.
Who are we looking for?
- PhD. in medical imaging/computer science
- 5 plus years of Proficiency and working experience in general machine learning research and development: neural networks, optimization, hyperparameter tuning, model search, etc.;
- Proficiency and working experience in developing deep learning models for image recognition applications (experience in medical imaging is a plus);
- Proficiency and working experience in machine learning libraries and frameworks: PyTorch (preferable), Tensorflow, Keras, etc.;
- Working fluency in Python;
- Proficiency and work experience in developing custom computer vision algorithms and image processing techniques for image recognition and analysis problems using Python-based libraries (e.g., OpenCV, SciPy, Scikit, SimpleITK, PIL, etc.);
- The ability to quickly understand and implement academic publications is a plus;
- Basic understanding of Git and Git Workflow is a plus;
- Experience in Agile development is a plus;
- Basic understanding of software architecture and design, especially object-oriented design is a plus;
- A basic understanding of database is a plus;
- Team player and eager to learn attitude;
