Skills and Competencies
We have an opportunity for an Analyst in the Moody’s Sovereign Risk Group to lead the internal credit analysis, rating committee discussions for a portfolio of sovereign and supranational credits, country and region-specific research, and meetings with government officials, investors and other stakeholders. The portfolio will mostly be in the Americas. The role offers a unique career opportunity at the intersection of public finance and financial markets.

Command of Spanish both written and spoken is highly preferred for this role, which is the native language spoken by most of the sovereign entities’ representatives and other stakeholders. Basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, with curiosity and enthusiasm for learning how AI tools can be used to improve processes and drive efficiency. Interest in exploring AI systems and a willingness to develop awareness of responsible AI practices, including risk management and ethical use.
- Assume primary analytical responsibility for a portfolio of sovereign and some supranational entities
- Monitor economic, financial, fiscal, environmental, social, and governance related trends and developments, and build in-depth knowledge of each of the credits under responsibility
- Review rating documentation, perform and present in-depth fundamental credit analysis effectively and comprehensively on each issuer at rating committees and periodic reviews in accordance with Moody’s methodologies. Develop and formulate solid and forward-looking analytical conclusions.
- Write in-depth, high quality, insightful and focused research on specific issuers, and on key credit trends affecting sovereigns in the Americas. Collaborate with other analysts on regional and global research.
- Build and maintain high quality relationships with senior management at federal governments and government related issuers.
- Actively participate in regular outreach events such as investor briefings, teleconferences, conferences and third party presentations.
- Participate in the analysis and discussion of a broader portfolio of government credits globally.
- Lead, collaborate and mentor junior associates in meticulously planning, organizing, and executing detailed analytical work, targeted outreach initiatives, and in-depth research projects. This collaboration aims to achieve specific, measurable outcomes aligned with our strategic objectives.
- Perform a number or routine administrative and other ad hoc credit-related tasks
Education
- Strong academic background is required. Graduate degree or equivalent in Economics, Finance, Business, or Public Administration (CFA or master qualification are a plus).
Qualifications
- Financial/statistical research capabilities.
- Relevant experience in public finance, economic analysis or relevant credit research experience in corporate is essential.
- Some prior experience in research writing, quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Excellent communication skills in English - able to communicate clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in writing, adapting to the target audience.
- Good communication skills in Spanish is preferable - able to communicate verbally and in writing, adapting to the target audience.
- Very organized and efficient, with ability to multi-task and able to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong MS Office skills; principally Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Some public speaking and travel is required.
About the Team
The Sovereign Risk Americas team provides rigorous and timely credit assessments of sovereign and Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) issuers across the Americas. Based in New York, the team is composed of experienced analysts who deliver high-quality sovereign ratings, insightful research, and strategic stakeholder engagement. Their work supports Moody’s broader mission of enhancing transparency and informed decision-making in global financial markets.
For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $134,400.00 - $194,850.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
