Skills and Competencies

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in Data Strategy and / or Data Product Management, with at least 5 years directly managing data products and data platforms.
  • 5+ years of direct experience leading and managing a team.
  • Proven track record in defining and executing a multi-year product strategy for complex, large-scale data assets, preferably in a B2B or Enterprise environment.
  • Mastery of modern product management and Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) at a portfolio level.
  • Deep expertise in understanding data content, data models, and data structures, with the ability to oversee and guide the design and optimization of data structures across the entire product portfolio to ensure scalability, usability, and alignment with business needs.
  • Solid technical acumen, with experience overseeing data processing pipelines, data warehousing technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift), and data governance tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to executive-level, non-technical audiences.

Education

Bachelor's degree in a technical or quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or Data Science). An MBA or Master’s degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Director of Data Strategy and Product Management will be a strategic leader responsible for defining and executing the vision for how Moody's Analytics transforms, governs, and delivers its core data assets. This role involves managing a team of Data Strategists and Data Product Managers, overseeing the entire data product portfolio and functional data organization structures, and ensuring a seamless, high-quality, and timely flow of data to internal application delivery teams and external clients.

The successful candidate will set the standard for data excellence, drive strategic prioritization, and champion a culture of data-centric product development that directly supports Moody’s mission to decode risk and unlock opportunity.

People & Team Leadership

  • Team Management: Manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of Data Strategists and Data Product Managers, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and deep curiosity about data and its business applications.
  • Talent Development: Define career paths, provide coaching, and conduct performance reviews to maximize the potential and impact of the team.
  • Operational Excellence: Establish and standardize best practices and processes across the team for data product lifecycle management, from ideation and discovery to delivery and deprecation.

Strategy & Vision

  • Data Strategy & Product Delivery: Deliver on the long-term strategic vision and multi-year roadmap for the data product portfolio. Partner with the Product Strategy team on the long term vision and ensuring it aligns with Moody’s Analytics' business goals and technology architecture Innovation & AI: Identify and integrate new technologies, including AI/ML capabilities, to enhance the data assets, streamline delivery, and drive new forms of value for application teams and clients.

Portfolio Oversight & Delivery

  • Data Strategy: Lead the team in discovering, evaluating, and onboarding new data sources to ensure the portfolio remains innovative and relevant to business needs. Oversee the creation and review of data briefs that detail requirements for data querying, transformation, and delivery, ensuring alignment with front-end application needs.
  • Delivery Assurance: Oversee the portfolio of initiatives to ensure that critical data transformation, enrichment, and delivery pipelines are executed on time, meeting the strict quality and performance requirements of dependent application delivery teams.
  • Strategic Prioritization: Implement a rigorous, data-driven framework for portfolio prioritization, balancing feature development, technical debt, operational stability, and mandated regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate risks and dependencies across all data product initiatives, ensuring transparency and clear escalation paths to senior leadership.

Governance & Quality

  • Data Governance: Champion and enforce the highest standards of data quality, data lineage, metadata management, and regulatory compliance across all managed data products.
  • Scalability & Architecture: Partner closely with Data Engineering and Data Architecture leadership to ensure the underlying data infrastructure is scalable, secure, and future-proof.
  • Automation: Drive the adoption of automation and robust monitoring across the entire data product lifecycle to ensure operational efficiency and minimize failure points.

Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Executive Communication: Act as the primary communicator of data product progress, strategy, and challenges to senior and executive stakeholders across Product, Technology, and Business lines.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Foster strong working partnerships with other Directors and VPs, including Application Product, Engineering, Technology, and QA to ensure seamless integration of data assets into final delivery platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in the Finance, Risk, or Regulatory sectors is highly preferred, with a strong understanding of the critical nature of data quality and timeliness in these domains.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $169,800.00 - $246,150.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation.
