At Moody's, we unite the brightest minds to turn today’s risks into tomorrow’s opportunities. We do this by striving to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome to be who they are—with the freedom to exchange ideas, think innovatively, and listen to each other and customers in meaningful ways. Moody’s is transforming how the world sees risk. As a global leader in ratings and integrated risk assessment, we’re advancing AI to move from insight to action—enabling intelligence that not only understands complexity but responds to it. We decode risk to unlock opportunity, helping our clients navigate uncertainty with clarity, speed, and confidence.

If you are excited about this opportunity but do not meet every single requirement, please apply! You still may be a great fit for this role or other open roles. We are seeking candidates who model our values: invest in every relationship, lead with curiosity, champion diverse perspectives, turn inputs into actions, and uphold trust through integrity.

  • Hands-on experience with large datasets, including geospatial data, and expertise in asynchronous/parallel programming and optimization techniques.
  • Ability to contribute to the scientific and technological development of flood hazard model components, including:
    • Space-time stochastic rainfall models
    • Water and energy balance for rainfall-runoff processes
  • Strong understanding of hydrological and hydraulic processes and modeling techniques.
  • Exposure to AI/ML concepts, tools, and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with transformer-based models, large language models (LLMs), and generative AI would be a plus.
  • Basic knowledge and interest in the catastrophe risk insurance industry.

Education

  • Postgraduate degree in Geoinformatics or Water Resource Engineering with at least 3 years of industry experience,
    or
  • Ph.D. in Geoinformatics, Water Resource Engineering, or Hydrology from a reputed institute with 1–2 years of relevant project or research experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and analyze hydrological, hydraulic, and geospatial models for flood hazard and risk assessment.
  • Process and analyze GIS and remote sensing data for model development, calibration, and validation.
  • Integrate large and complex datasets into modeling workflows and deploy machine learning models for real-world catastrophe modeling applications.
  • Collaborate with global teams and contribute to research-driven process enhancements.
  • Communicate technical findings and model improvements effectively in a project-oriented environment.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI/ML, including transformers, LLMs, and generative models.

About the Team

Join a dynamic Model Development Team focused on building probabilistic flood models and advanced catastrophe risk analytics. The team develops, calibrates, and validates hazard and loss models leveraging expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, geoinformatics, and machine learning.
Our flood model team is part of the MA Insurance domain, responsible for creating country- or continent-level flood models used to derive flood losses, enabling clients to analyze their risk exposure effectively.
