Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of data science principles and applications, including statistical modeling, predictive analytics, ML and NLP, data mining, and optimization techniques
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, SAS, or SQL; familiarity with tools and platforms like AWS, Elasticsearch, GitHub, or Docker is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with research and analysis, demonstrated through internships or academic projects involving large, complex datasets and a variety of analytical tools
  • Awareness of existing and emerging technologies, including a foundational understanding of generative AI and its applications, with a willingness to explore how these tools can drive innovation and improve software solutions
  • Demonstrated leadership potential, learning agility, and adaptability, with the ability to take initiative and contribute effectively in evolving technical and team environments
    Understanding of finance and capital markets is a plus, with the ability to contextualize technical work within broader business and industry objectives
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, with curiosity and enthusiasm for learning how AI tools can be used to improve processes and drive efficiency. Interest in exploring AI systems and a willingness to develop awareness of responsible AI practices, including risk management and ethical use

Education

  • Graduating with a minimum of a Masters or PhD degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Operations Research, Applied Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science (with a focus on machine learning or AI), or a related quantitative discipline
  • Anticipated graduation date of June 2026 or prior
  • Achieved exceptional academic performance

Responsibilities
Rotational assignments vary in terms of the technology skills required, and may use any or all of the following technologies: Analytical Tools and Solutions, Emerging Technologies, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) & Climate Risk, Business Intelligence, Enterprise Applications Systems, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, NLP, Data Science, and Data Engineering.
At Moody’s we are committed to integrating generative AI within each of our teams, which you will gain experience in during your time in the rotation program. Typical responsibilities for participants in the program may include, but are certainly not limited to, examples in the list below:

  • Conduct theoretical and empirical research on measurements of credit risk and other risks including climate change and other emerging threats on portfolio credit risk
  • Create an agentic system by harnessing the power of GenAI and LLMs to uncover valuable insights from various data sources by leveraging tools such as AWS, Databricks, Jenkins, and Github
  • Develop intuitive Streamlit and Power BI applications that translate complex analyses into actionable, executive-ready narratives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create GenAI-powered automation tools that enhance the capabilities of customer service teams, enabling them to respond to inquiries more efficiently and effectively
  • Model financial line items for companies, work on credit scoring models, feature extraction & ML pipeline development, and utilize macro-economic tracking tools

About the Program
Embark on an exciting journey in your early career by joining the Moody’s Technology Rotation Program – Data Science! This dynamic program is your gateway to launching your career in data science, offering recent graduates the chance to join our teams who are at the forefront of transforming data using the most advanced technologies to create impactful solutions for our clients. You’ll not only enhance your technical skills but also cultivate in-depth domain knowledge while developing new techniques to help solve real-world problems, all while forging invaluable connections with a community of your peers.

Over the course of the 2-year program, you’ll participate in two year-long rotation assignments across various Moody’s Business Units (BUs), gaining a variety of experiences that will shape you into a future technology leader at the firm. You will have a vital role in modeling, visualizing, and interpreting critical data to help us continue to use data and technology to transform our industry. You will have the opportunity to work with accomplished individuals who share advanced degrees, certifications and professional designations in fields such as data science, machine learning, AI, predictive analytics, mathematics, economics, and more. Based in our headquarters in New York office, this hybrid program encourages collaboration and innovation, requiring participants to join our community in the office 2 days per week.

As you navigate through the program, you’ll be empowered to develop in your professional career by engaging in monthly workshops, participating in ongoing training and through receiving ongoing feedback from your rotation team – all with the support of a dedicated program manager. Starting together as a cohort, you’ll build friendships and a strong support network from day one, setting the stage for an incredible career ahead.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $130,000-$140,000, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for a completion bonus. Moody’s also offers insurance and a discounted employee stock purchase plan for limited duration employees.
