Qualifications

  • Foundation in accounting and financial analysis gained through coursework, professional certifications (e.g., CFA or equivalent), relevant work experience, or internships
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and financial reporting
  • Strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a demonstrated commitment to delivering high‑quality, accurate work
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a dynamic, deadline‑driven environment
  • Some understanding of fixed income markets and/or credit analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in academic, professional, or extracurricular settings, including situations that required leadership or coaching

Preferred:

  • Some understanding of fixed income markets and/or credit analysis
  • Exposure to programming or data tools (e.g., Python, SQL) is a plus

Education

Minimum undergraduate or first-level degree (e.g., bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related business discipline, with strong academic performance.

Responsibilities

The Rating Associate will work with lead analysts in assigning and monitoring credit ratings; researching, drafting, and publishing research; and other activities. The Rating Associate will perform an evaluation of credit risk by integrating credit risk inputs prepared by internal and external parties. In conducting credit analysis for their assigned credits, transactions, or credit reviews. The Rating Associate are expected to participate in rating committee discussions and interact with issuers and other market participants, in collaboration with lead analysts.

The Rating Associate role is integral to Moody’s focus on ratings accuracy, research, and market outreach. The Rating Associate role will typically focus primarily on one rating group, with the potential for cross-training in and/or work for other rating groups.

Portfolio Management & Credit Analysis

  • Support lead analysts in the day-to-day monitoring and analysis of credit ratings, research, presentations, and investor communications
  • Analyze financial statements, review financial models and forecast, and draft analytical commentary in line with Moody’s methodologies
  • Assist with proprietary models, projections, and data analysis to identify trends and support well-reasoned credit conclusions
  • Develop working knowledge of credit fundamentals, including transaction structures, documentation, cash flow analysis, and loss allocation mechanisms
  • Contribute to portfolio reviews and ad hoc credit-related projects
  • Apply Moody’s methodologies and rating best practices with guidance from senior team members
  • Prepare initial drafts of rating committee memos in collaboration with lead analysts
  • Monitor issuer performance, industry trends, and relevant market developments through financial reporting, news flow, and (in some groups) earnings calls
  • Participate in rating committee meetings, providing analysis and informed perspective as appropriate

Research, Investor Outreach & Market Interaction

  • Contribute to the drafting of core research publications, including credit opinions, issuer and sector commentary, press releases, and pre-sale or new issue reports
  • Support research strategy through idea generation, preliminary drafting, and adherence to Moody’s research standards
  • Assist in preparing materials for issuer meetings and investor briefings and participate in discussions when required
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with issuers by developing an understanding of their business profiles and responding proactively to inquiries

Credit Administration & Controls

  • Operate Moody’s internal ratings, research, and workflow systems relevant to the rating group
  • Apply Moody’s processes, documentation standards, and internal controls with sound judgment
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures

Coaching, Workflow Management & Collaboration

  • Coordinate and provide guidance on work delegated to data processing teams
  • Manage workload pipelines to ensure timely and high-quality delivery; escalate prioritization questions as needed
  • Provide constructive, fact-based feedback to management on the quality and accuracy of work produced by support teams

Risk Identification and Escalation

  • Complete all mandatory compliance and risk training within required timelines
  • Maintain awareness of Moody’s risk management framework and information security expectations, including cyber risk and data protection practices
  • Consistently delivering high-quality work with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness

About the team

Ratings Associates work closely with lead analysts to assign and monitor credit ratings, conduct credit risk analysis, and publish market‑relevant research. The role involves integrating financial and qualitative inputs from internal and external sources, participating in rating committees, and interacting with issuers and market participants under the guidance of senior analysts. The position offers meaningful exposure to credit markets, structured analytical development, and collaboration across Moody’s global teams.
