About the Role

Permutive has a track-record of high win-rates thanks to strong technical differentiation through our on-device technology which we've been able to connect to value through our Sales Engineering team. As we enter new segments and scale in others, we need to ensure we continue to consistently establish a clear mapping between our differentiated technical capabilities and value.

We’re looking to hire a seasoned, people-first leader to take on the role of Director of Sales Engineering. As an experienced manager, you'll lead, mentor, and develop a global Sales Engineering team across the US and EMEA, reporting directly to the VP of Sales. You will have significant impact on shaping the strategic direction and growth of our Sales Engineering department to enable operational excellence and go-to-market success during our next phase of growth

This is an ideal opportunity for a hands-on, expert leader who cares deeply about their teams growth and development, and who is also comfortable thriving in the thick of sales deals and processes while empowering those around them.

You will serve as a deeply embedded partner to the sales organization and a champion for your Sales Engineers, ensuring your team effectively articulates our product vision and aligns technical solutions with our customer needs in the fast evolving advertising ecosystem.

About the Team

The Permutive Sales Engineering team is a creative group of problem-solvers, critical in connecting Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering. We pride ourselves on technical excellence and collaborative problem-solving. You'll be managing a team of 3 Sales Engineers initially, with expansion in the US and UK to support our growing Sales team.

What you'll be doing

Leadership & Team Development

  • Develop and Set the vision for the Sales Engineering team, guiding its growth and maturity within our global sales organization.

  • Drive key strategic initiatives, ensuring effective collaboration with GTM leadership as well as key clients.

  • Act as a crucial strategic partner to the VP of Sales, representing Sales Engineering in executive discussions and planning.

  • Improve processes and eliminate bottlenecks by working cross-functionally to refine our product offering and develop standardized technical sales playbooks.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and belonging. This includes providing candid and open feedback, ensuring a vital feedback loop between GTM leadership and the frontline, and championing individual career growth.

  • Set clear team goals, track performance metrics, and provide regular feedback that promotes individual and collective improvement.

  • Provide technical guidance and support, acting as an escalation point for complex technical challenges, and ensuring all voices are heard in problem-solving and that team members feel valued for their contributions.

Driving Technical Sales Excellence

  • Be a hands-on leader who loves to be actively involved in sales deals and processes, leading by example and empowering your team to excel.

  • Proactively influence client RFPs and deal cycles by strategically positioning our solutions against competitors.

  • Track record of securing the technical win in complex enterprise deals by successfully positioning our product USP.

  • Leverage experience engaging with the Technical organization (P&E) to secure strategic buy-in, recognizing their increasing influence in the purchasing process.

  • Lead by example in large, strategic sales engagements, serving as a trusted advisor and expert technical resource for major clients and C-level executives.

  • Identify and articulate the value proposition of the Permutive platform, demonstrating clear ROI for potential clients, focusing on selling the future and our vision without overselling.

  • Collaborate closely with leadership to develop and execute technical sales strategies that align with overall business objectives and revenue targets, directly contributing to revenue growth.

  • Act as a technical subject matter expert (SME) in high-stakes customer engagements. You'll need to be able to have deep technical conversations, and then effectively relay complex information to technical stakeholders and C-level executives.

  • Partner in the technical discovery process with prospects to deeply understand their technical challenges, business requirements, and strategic goals, translating these into robust solution designs.

Cross-Functional Impact & Collaboration

  • Serve as the key liaison between the sales, product, and engineering teams, providing critical customer feedback and market insights to inform product roadmap and development priorities.

  • Build and nurture excellent stakeholder relationships both internally and with customers, ensuring seamless alignment across teams, and championing your team's contributions in cross-functional settings.

Industry Expertise & Technical Curiosity

  • Maintain and grow expert level knowledge of the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and the competitive landscape within AdTech or MarTech.

  • Deliver strategic insights and innovation to sales and product leadership on market opportunities and challenges, guiding Permutives technical sales direction and GTM initiatives. You need to be technically curious and constantly learning

What you'll need

  • 5+ years of leadership experience, managing, growing, and developing a team of Sales or Solutions Engineers selling into Advertisers, Publishers, and/or Broadcasters.

  • Proven track record of building, coaching, and scaling diverse, high-performing teams, with a genuine commitment to well-being, whilst driving significant contributions to company objectives.

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • A natural ability to inspire and influence executive-level stakeholders, translating vision into action through strong connection building

  • Experience driving cross-functional growth initiatives and mediating technical and interpersonal challenges with empathy and decisiveness.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, while ensuring your team feels supported and resilient.

  • Strong business acumen and a strategic mindset, with the ability to align technical solutions with business objectives.

  • Willingness to travel as needed to meet with customers, attend industry events and support sales activities.

What we are offering

We take a structured, objective approach to salary-setting, which is based on marketing information, our compensation strategy, and your experience and capability assessed through our interview process. For a typical candidate who meets our requirements, we pay a base salary of $225,000 - $245,000.

How we compensate for success

If you join Permutive as a Director of Sales Engineering with a base salary of $225,000 and reach 100% quota attainment in a year, your OTE for that year will be around $375,000.
