Overview

Location : Suresnes (92), France

Contract type : full time

At Phagos we are on a quest to create a cleaner, more sustainable future: by using bacteria’s natural predator, the bacteriophage, we will win the fight against antibiotic resistance and cure infectious diseases in animal farming!

Our mission requires producing, processing and understanding a huge amount of diverse biological data, ranging from genetic sequences to high-throughput results from quantitative experiments. To harness the power of these data we are looking for a (senior) machine learning engineer, who will strengthen our top-class team of data scientists.

If you want to be one of the key players in our team and help us in our quest, we would love to chat!

Your responsibilities

You will integrate the Data and Bioinformatic team and have a main role in designing, improving and deploying our machine learning models and algorithms.

You will have access to extensive computing resources on commercial clouds and on EU supercomputers to train and benchmark our deep neural networks.

You will present your results and advancements to other researchers in the company, and support them in designing further experiments to collect additional data and to validate the predictions of the developed models.

Your technical skills

Required:

- PhD on a relevant subject or equivalent experience in a research-focused work environment.

- At least 2 years of experience in designing, testing, optimizing and deploying large deep neural networks (large language model or other modern architectures).

- Experience in training large deep neural networks on cloud resources (GCP, AWS) and/or high-performance computers.

- Knowledge of state-of-the-art ideas and techniques in machine learning, ability and willingness to continuously learn through reading papers and joining conferences.

- Strong programming skills in Python.

- Extensive knowledge of common versioning systems (such as Git), Docker, Poetry or similar dependency management tools.

- Professional working proficiency in English.

Nice-to-have (in order of priority):

- Experience in training LLMs (or similar) on biological sequences (proteins, DNA, RNA).

- Basic knowledge of phage and/or bacteria biology.

- Strong programming skills in Julia.
