About the Role
We are expanding our Science team and seeking a dynamic Junior Research Scientist to join us. Reporting to the Director of Science, they will work closely with the Senior Research Scientist and other science and machine learning members of the thymia team. As a key contributor, they will lead projects focused on research design, data collection, and analysis, particularly in developing digital health and wellbeing tools. This position offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact in both clinical and wellbeing solutions while gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced, innovative environment. You will learn from forerunners in the fields of neuroscience, AI and sensory signal processing for mood disorders and contribute to a team with over 250 scientific publications and 9000+ citations between them.
This position will additionally involve an exciting one-year project with an automotive client, focusing on a research study on driver wellbeing. The project will take you to a study site located two hours outside of London, providing a unique opportunity to engage in impactful research while gaining diverse field experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews across neuroscience, psychology, machine learning and speech and language research to support the thymia scientific literature repository, focusing on both patient and healthy populations.
- Assist on the design and development of novel gamified data collection designs and cognitive task protocols.
- Assist on the design and development of evidence generation and validation studies for the existing thymia products
- Assist in the preparation of ethics applications and clinical study registrations.
- Lead the execution of clinical and scientific studies (online and/or in-person) with human subjects, including recruitment, data collection and support in data analysis.
- Contribute to the organisation and management of data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with ethical standards.
- Help draft and prepare academic papers, conference presentations, and grant applications.
- Preparing summary finding reports and presentations for internal thymia teams and external channels, including the website, social media, etc.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including product managers, engineers, and designers.
Candidate Profile
Must Have
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Economics, or a related field with a strong methodological background in human behaviour studies;
- Proven ability to independently manage and complete projects or research initiatives;
- Experience in designing and running in-person experiments with human participants;
- Proficiency in data analysis (e.g., inferential statistics, R, Python);
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail;
- Collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team;
- Passion for mental health research and a drive to contribute to innovative solutions;
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment, adapt quickly, and shift focus as needed;
- High performance attitude;
- Valid driver’s licence for the UK and enthusiasm for travel;
- Ability to travel outside of London when required for study participant testing
Nice to have
- Experience conducting research with clinical populations;
- Prior industry experience;

- Qualitative and mixed-methods data analysis;
- Health economics and outcomes research;
- Clinical training or hands-on experience in treating patients (beyond research contexts);
- Hands-on EEG data collection and analysis;
Conditions and Remuneration
- Starting Salary: £30,000.00 - £45,000.00
