Why Tractable?

We combine world-class AI research with real-world applications that make a difference. At Tractable, you’ll collaborate with brilliant minds, work on transformative projects, and contribute to technology that helps people when they need it most.

Role Overview

This is a hands-on role designed to establish robust financial controls and scalable processes following the launch of our new hardware product line. Operating within a hybrid SaaS and hardware business model, your primary focus will be ensuring our financial infrastructure can securely handle increased transaction volumes and physical asset management. You will achieve this by designing and embedding rigorous accounting policies, internal controls, and optimised order-to-cash workflows.

While the core mandate centres on finance transformation projects, you will also provide secondary support to the wider finance team on routine group reporting, compliance, and audit cycles. This role is strictly focused on building scalable infrastructure rather than maintaining existing processes.

This role will initially be a 6 month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension or conversion to a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Control & Technical Accounting

    • Policy Frameworks: Define, document, and implement accounting policies under US GAAP and UK frameworks for revenue and cost recognition regarding software and hardware products.

    • Internal Controls: Design and embed rigorous internal control environments, including cost-accounting procedures, inventory tracking methodologies, and physical asset reconciliation workflows.

    • Process Optimisation: Map, optimise, and enforce an airtight, end-to-end B2B order-to-cash reconciliation process.

  • Systems, Process & Automation

    • Tech Stack Integration: Lead the configuration and enhancement of the full quote-to-cash lifecycle, including CRM, billing, revenue recognition, collections, and reporting (NetSuite, Stripe, HubSpot), to support hardware supply chain operations and higher-volume data processing.

    • Tax Automation: Deploy and manage automated, multi-state US sales tax compliance tools (e.g., Avalara), ensuring seamless integration with core billing engines.

    • Workflow Automation: Review existing workflows to identify operational bottlenecks, designing automated solutions to eliminate manual interventions across billing and reconciliation cycles.

  • Group Reporting, Compliance & Commercial Support

    • Financial Reporting: Support the core finance team with monthly group consolidations and variance analysis.

    • Tax & Compliance: Assist with cross-border statutory compliance, including sales taxes, the UK R&D tax credit application process, and US corporate tax requirements.

    • Audit Management: Support year-end group and regional external audit processes.

    • SaaS Metrics: Assist with the development and enhancement of SaaS KPI tracking and management information systems.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Qualifications: Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA, or CIMA).

  • US Compliance Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience working with US companies, including strong familiarity with US GAAP and US state-level compliance.

  • Transformation Track Record: A strong history of setting up accounting practices, designing internal financial controls, and mapping order-to-cash processes within a scaling environment.

  • Systems Experience: Strong experience with enterprise ERP systems configuration (NetSuite is highly desirable) alongside hands-on process automation experience.

  • Industry Background: Prior experience in a high-growth technology environment, ideally with exposure to both SaaS business models and physical goods/hardware supply chains.
